Nanggroe Aceh Darussalam's Relationship With The United States

The choice of sultan fell to Tuanku Ibrahim Raja Pakeh Ali Pidie. to draft a treaty with the United States is exactly right. Because he is a young Acehnese figure who has talent as a diplomat. He had a relationship between nations.

Here's a snapshot of some of the personal descriptions of Tuanku Ibrahim described by Studer, the American Consul in Singapore in a report sent to the State Department in Washington D.C. "This officer, tuanku Ibrahim etc a young man about 25 years of agemwould make an excellent impression anywhere, his manners and bearing are polished and dignified, his man ner of speech cool,  sagacious and well chosen, and all natural, and I candidly and truly say that he would grace the best of society anywhere, and when considering, that there are many more such man among his nation , it seems to be quite natural that they should feel perpectly able of taking care of themselves".

Freely he meant roughly "this official, Tuanku Ibrahim and so on a young man who is about 25 years old will cause the best impression of the society wherever he is. His style and behavior are brilliant (in other words in English it can be called weel-eduvated), and encouraging people will always be respectful to him.

His way of speaking is impressive that he has a careful consideration of his speech neatly composed of choice words and all of that is natural (not contrived), and I frankly and correctly say that he, because of his consensual consensual with society, will always not hesitate to respect or appreciate those who are the best of society everywhere, and given that there are still many people like him among his people seems quite natural,  that they should feel fully capable of taking care of themselves.

In Pulo Pinang, the Malaysian state of Penang – TA), due to the appointment of Tuanku Ibrahim Raja Fakih Ali Pidie as the sultan's absolute representative to create the Acehnese-American text of the settlement, at the initiative of acehnese fighters living there, a council of 7 people has been formed to accompany and assist Tuanku Ibrahim in carrying out the arduous task.

This council is historically famous for the Council of Seven (council of seven). They are:

(1) Teuku Muhammad Hanifah Nyak Piah (regional head of Tanjong Seumantok), (2) Treasurer King Sheikh Ahmad bin Haji Kasim Annajjari (one of the sultan's ministers), (3) Sheikh Ahmad bin Abdullah Basaud (businessman and a confidant of the sultan), (4) Hajj Yusuf (commander of the sultan's army for pumpkin water), (5) Teuku Nyak Abu Karruf (businessman), (6) Sheikh Kasim bin Said Amudi (businessman), and  (7) Gulamudin Sah Maricar (secretary at lorrain & hill office).

Regarding the text of the Aceh-American treaty, the Council of Seven held its hearings three times to discuss the manuscript, the decision was to unanimously approve and wholeheartedly support the manuscript. Then, on the letter sent by Tuanku Ibrahim to General Grant. The President of the United States, as a cover letter to the manuscript, they affixed his stamp and signature.

It is important to know that in order to deal with the emergency situation caused by the Dutch, Sultan Alaiddin Mahmud Shah, in addition to taking outward actions, namely seeking a friendly treaty with the United States, he also held an inward consolidation, namely strengthening the position of the government.  Because, the strong position of the government has a great influence, both in trying to deal with the enemy, namely the Netherlands and in trying to attract America to become good friends and loyal allies.

He has formed a council consisting of three people, namely Teuku Muda Nyak Malim, Teuku Maharaja Mangkubumi and Tuanku Ibrahim Raja Fakeh Ali Pidie. who settled in Pulo Pinang. To these three Acehnese figures, Sultan Alaiddin Mahmud Shah gave the power to act, either jointly or individually, for the sultan or on his behalf, to organize things that can ensure the continued implementation of the Shari'a of Allah and his Messenger throughout the territory of the Aceh kingdom, carry out all his commandments as directed by him and carry out everything that is considered important for the safety of the nation and state.

Everything included in the "Foreign affairs" is managed by Tuanku Ibrahim Raja Fakeh Ali Pidie who lives in Pulo Pinang.

This council is very important for the smooth running of the government, especially since Mangkabumi (Prime Minister) Sayid Abdurrahman Azzahir is not in place, he as it was known some time ago, left for Istambul, seeking help from the Turkish government. It is no exaggeration that this council is referred to as the "War cabinet".

We return to the text of the Aceh-American accord after it has been completed and received approval from the Council of Seven, ushered in by Tuanku Ibrahim Raja Fakeh Ali Pidie accompanied by a subordinate official to Studer, the American Consul in Singapore.

In a meeting at the residence of the American Consul the manuscript was handed over by Tuanku Ibrahim Raja Fakih Ali Pidie to the American Consul, Studer accompanied by Cyrus Wakefirld.

Besides the manuscript of the agreement. Tuanku Ibrahim also handed a letter to General Grant. President of the United States and some credentials. Tuanku Ibrahim in his remarks conveyed hope, hopefully the American government will not leave the people of Aceh alone in an unjust war.

The American government is expected to use its influence and power to bring about lasting peace, so that the people of Aceh continue to live in a state of freedom and independence, not becoming Dutch citizens. In a conversation with Studer, Tuanku Ibrahim also stated that the Dutch had in any way spread reports vilifying Aceh in various aspects. Although what was said was fake.

We know very well, when it comes to progress, we are not at the same level as our neighbors who have come forward. Nevertheless, our people were diligent, diligent and worked hard to multiply their agricultural production, so that some of our products could be sent to them to the Dutch market.

In addition, since 15 years ago, many Acehnese have become rich. Those with abundant wealth have invested their capital in the real estate business in Pulo Pinang. If they are left undisturbed, not disturbed and continue to live in a state of peace civilization has spread to all corners of the land of Aceh.

Tuanku Ibrahim also emphasized to Studer that if the advantages (superiorities) possessed by the Acehnese people, although they can still be counted on the fingers combined with the determination of fate not to want to fall under Dutch rule, they will be able to survive until there is a serious reflection of conversion on the part of the Dutch themselves. Or, through a foreign intervesi they will be forced to leave the Acehnese people living in peace.

On the other hand Consul Studer replied, that all the documents that had been submitted to him would be presented to the American government, with all the hopes and wishes of Tuanku Ibrahim, he said, now the American government has taken a firm stand to be in a strict neutral position, both with the Netherlands and with Aceh. In the near future when I have become the American Consul for Sumatra, I will try my hardest to maintain that strict neutrality. As for the hardships now faced by the people of Aceh, they are all within the consideration of the American government."

A month later, on October 4, 1873, the text of the Achehnese American Treaty Proposal was transferred by the American Consul, Studer to Jcb davius, assistant Secretary of State in Washington. DC. Maybe it's because considering that the war between Aceh and the Netherlands has been raging. Meanwhile, America doesn't want to involve itself.

He did not want to take the risk to sign the manuscript of the treaty. Plus I think, because they are both countries that have plans to bring "mission civilisastrio" to nations in the east, which according to the dictionary of western countries at that time did not fall into the category of civilized nations. (civilized nations).

If the war hadn't erupted, I think the text of the treaty was signed. Because, for America, there is still an opportunity to intervene with diplomatic operations to prevent war. But this is also what the Dutch wanted to prevent, by accelerating the announcement of war on Aceh. Although poorly prepared, his first expedition failed miserably with Jenderah Kohler, as the leader of the expedition, assassinated by Acehnese fighters.

Thus the manuscript was kept in the State Archives section of the Department and after the US National Archeves was built, it was stored there in microfilm. Until now after almost a quarter of a century he is still there intact.

Minggu Menyapa Kekasih Dalam Balutan Rindu

Aceh's Historical Relations with Singapore

Nanggroe Aceh Darussalam has a close historical relationship with Singapore . In the past, Sang Nila Utama was the founder of the ancient Singapore kingdom. When Singapore was attacked by the Majapahit Kingdom and the Kingdom of Singapore lost, in the end the descendants of the Main Indigo named Parameswara founded the Kingdom of Malacca. After the malak kingdom began, Singapore became the territory of Malacca.  When Malacca was defeated by the Portuguese in 1511, the kingdom of Johor was established, the territory of Singapore then also became the territory of Johor. During the Aceh Darussalam Sultanate led by Sultan Iskandar Muda Perkasa Alam Darmawangsa Tun Pangkat (1607-1636), the Aceh Sultanate with reinforcements from the Ottoman Turkish fleet conquered the territory of Johor and liberated the Malay lands from Portuguese clutches. After the Portuguese colonists were displaced, the territory of Singapore and Batu Puteh Island, located at the meeting point of the Singapore Strait w
